Porto Corsini was an air naval base of Regia Marina and seat of a seaplanes squadron. In the last months of 1918 was the only U.S. Navy Naval Air Station  acting in Italy.

First part of the book is formed by the chronology of events starting from the first war day, when, on the 24 of May 1915 Austrian ships attacked Porto Corsini, until the end of 1918, when Americans leaved the base. The second part includes twelve  biographies of people who had a leading role in this story.
